A group approach to interacting with peers.
Game Time is a group designed for children ages 5-7 years old, who struggle with social interaction skills, and would benefit from a group approach to interact with peers.
The structure of Game Time is focused on engagement in various types of games (board games, movement games, sensory/motor play, and gross motor/fine motor activities), to promote interaction between peers appropriately , opportunities to learn about problem solving, feelings, emotional regulation, team work, understanding of other’s needs, non-verbal communication methods, and awareness of one’s own actions in social situations. They will also begin to develop knowledge of new ways to be entertained, and participate in leisure activities.
Games and activities can be modified to meet the specific needs of the child. Participants and families will receive materials to use at home and in the community in order to carry over skills learned within the group environment. The group will be led by an occupational therapist.
