Let’s Keep Writing

The Children’s developmental Center is offering a 6 week summer handwriting program based on the “Handwriting Without Tears” therapeutic programs for children experiencing handwriting difficulties. The goals of the program are to provide functional strategies and improve a child’s handwriting skills. This is accomplished by identifying possible reasons for the difficulties, then providing various activities that encourage skill development in a social setting among peers.

The program actively involves parents/caregivers through assigned activities that need to be completed at home from week to week. The idea is to take a necessary task and make it fun! Little rewards will be provided for completing the home assignments.

The weekly program is based on a variety of occupational therapy interventions. The program is designed for a group from 5 to 10 children between the ages of 6 to 12. There will be an occupational therapy professional leading each group. Please realize that this is a specialized program with specific criteria.

Sensory integration activities will address multiple sensory areas including visual, auditory, tactile, balance and movement.

Perceptual and fine-motor activities are integral to handwriting development and will include activities both at the Center and at home.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
